THE GESTALT CENTER OF LONG ISLAND

The Center, established in 1977, is a non-profit educational institution provisionally chartered by the Board of Regents, State of New York Education Department. The primary purpose of the Center is to offer a high quality program of training in Gestalt Psychotherapy to mental health professionals and to provide educational programs for the general community. The Center's faculty have post-graduate training in Gestalt Psychotherapy and have extensive experience as Gestalt psychotherapists in private practice and clinical settings. Adjunct faculty who have expertise in approaches complementary to Gestalt Psychotherapy add breadth to the training experience.

GESTALT PSYCHOTHERAPY

Gestalt therapy is a holistic approach to understanding and working with individuals developed by Frederick Perls, M.D., with significant contributions from Laura Perls, DSc. and Paul Goodman. It is an experiential, rather than interpretive therapy that values and attends to the interplay and integration of body, mind and emotions as they occur in the present moment. The goal of Gestalt Therapy becomes not only the resolution of emotional problems but also excitement and growth in the human personality.
