OVERVIEW
The 1 Year Professional Education Program is an on-going intensive group experience devoted to the study of Gestalt theory and its clinical applications. The group, which meets for weekly two hour sessions, from October through May, is designed for mental health professionals who wish to experience an in depth introduction to Gestalt therapy.
The program is facilitated by a senior staff trainer who works as therapist and trainer. Program members are encouraged to volunteer to work with the staff member on their personal issues. At the completion of each piece of work, there is a discussion of the theory and methodology of Gestalt therapy as it unfolded in the work just completed. This practicum format is an effective and powerful learning approach.
Program members participate in discussions of Gestalt philosophy, methodology, theory and practice. The program is a "hands on" experience, employing both a didactic and experiential way of learning. If appropriate, group members may work as therapist, under the supervision of the staff member, with a group member volunteer. The group provides an opportunity to work on personal issues in a safe and structured environment, to share professional concerns with colleagues, and to learn the Gestalt approach to psychotherapy.
ADMISSION
The program is open to mental health professionals and students in graduate mental health programs. The program is limited to a maximum of eight participants, to ensure an intensive personal and professional learning experience.
Participants in the Professional Education Program who may wish to transfer to the Center's Certificate Training Program may apply for credit for their participation in the Group. They are also welcome and encouraged to attend the 3 Day Residential Training Weekend in June.
